The Canon iP1700 is yet another entry-level Pixma printer that sells for under $100.
It helps reducing the price and weight of the printer a little bit.
The cheap price of the Canon iP1700 comes at the expense of convenience.

There is no PictBridge port for direct printing, no card readers, and not even a monochrome LCD.
That last one means you always have to depend on a computer to use the printer.
The printer has a simple auto sheet feeder at the back.

Although the tri-color cartridge may be a letdown to some consumers, the print speed would probably not.
Considering the price, the quality of the photo prints is quite impressive.
Text output is as impressive.

While jaggedness may still be visible on closer inspection, the text still looks good.
The graphics quality is also not perfect, but it is quite a steal for the price.
There is also PhotoRecord to create and print beautiful photo albums.
The one software that everyone should never forget to install is the driver.
