It is added into the printer to catch ink waste.
The ink waste doesnt only come from the printers cleaning cycles but also from printing borderless pages.
Thanks to the ink pad, the waste doesnt leak out from the printer.
The ink pad has a limit, though.
When the counter assigned to the ink pad reaches its highest point, the printer stops operating.
