OCZ Vertex Limited Edition 100GB Review

Once formatted the drive only has 93.1GB of usable space. The lost capacity increases as the drives become larger. Something else we found interesting about the Vertex LE and thenon SF-1500 controlleris that there is no DRAM cache. Because less data is being written, SandForce claims that manufacturers can use cheaper memory to save on costs. The Vertex LE features Micron 29F64G08CFABA flash memory. In total there are 16 chips with 8GB capacity each....

Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 Motherboard Review: AMD's 890GX Chipset Makes Its Debut

Article Index utility Performance The Intel Core i5 750 processor is clearly faster than the AMD Phenom II X4 965 when working with Excel 2007. The Core i5 750 was anywhere from 25 - 35% faster in this test while the 785G and 890GX chipsets produced similar results. Here we have conducted our own WinRAR compression test using a 400MB program made up of over a hundred files and a single 700MB audio/video file....

ATI Radeon HD 5830 Review

Article Index Test System Specs & 3Dmark Vantage According to 3Dmark Vantage the Radeon HD 5830 is 12% faster than the GeForce GTX 285 at 2560x1600. This is an impressive result making Radeon HD 5830 a mere 4% slower than the more expensive 5850 with a score of 4848pts. Given that this graphics card should be replacing the Radeon HD 4890 in terms of pricing, the 37% performance boost compared to the latter was a nice surprise....

Synology Disk Station DS410j NAS Review

Article Index Synology DS410j Synology went back in time designing the DS410j. In all fairness though, I still think the design itself is quite classy. Unfortunately it only comes in white and not black like the DS409 series. The DS410j has the same size footprint as the DS409 at 230mm long, 168mm wide and 184mm tall. When empty it weighs just 2.23kg, though it will become considerably heavier once four hard drives are installed....

ATI Radeon HD 5570 Review

Our review sample used a low-profile design, which should be followed by most manufacturers. The evaluation sample we received used a tiny 45mm fan cooling a small 95mm x 55mm copper heatsink. It’s worth noting that the use of a copper heatsink makes this graphics card surprisingly heavy. In terms of physical dimensions the Radeon HD 5570 is only 17cm long. The Radeon HD 5570 can come configured with either 512MB or 1GB of memory....

ATI Radeon HD 5450 Review

The PCI Express bus alone is capable of delivering enough current to this card. As with all low-end graphics cards we highly recommend you purchase the lowest memory capacity model possible. This is because they are cheaper and do not sacrifice much if any performance.

ATI Radeon HD 5670 Review

Article Index Benchmarks: Call of Duty, Company of Heroes Running Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 at 1920x1200, the Radeon HD 5670 averaged just 42fps, making it 4fps or 9% slower than the GeForce 9800 GT. It was also 21% slower than the Radeon HD 4770 at the same resolution and 10% faster than the GeForce GT 240, though we can hardly call this an impressive feat. In Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts, AMD’s latest budget card was only able to match the performance of the GeForce GT 240 with a lackluster 35fps at 1920x1200....

Asus Eee PC 1101HA Seashell Netbook Review

Although the 1011HA is constructed mostly of plastic, it doesn’t feel cheap. I personally love large resolutions on small screens like this as everything looks razor-sharp. Vertical and horizontal viewing angles are about average. The obvious game-changer here is the Seashell’s ability to be overclocked. When using the Seashell under normal conditions heat and noise were not an issue. Audio quality for the two downward-firing speakers was very good. Besides that we encountered a couple more nuisances here and there....
